The 7 golden rules for caring for your kit
Have you got a brand new kit and then been disappointed with how it washes? Spent your hard earned money on new teamwear, only to find it impossible to get it clean? If so, look at our 7 GOLDEN RULES FOR KIT CARE below.
Today’s new lightweight fabrics need a different care approach than those of 20 years ago, so follow these golden Rules for the best results:
1. WASH COOL
Many people think the dirtier the kit, the hotter the wash needs to be. With modern garments, you are baking the dirt in, not washing it out. Once it is baked in, the dirt usually can’t be removed. So please WASH COOL (30 C NOT 50 C).
2. WASH ASAP
Wash as soon as possible after use. If you cannot wash the same day, try to keep the kit in cold water – it will stop the mud setting into the fabric. A little “Vanish”, or similar, will help.
3. WASH SOCKS SEPARATELY
Always wash the socks separately. They have more dye than the kits and the extra dye will transfer to the kit.
4. NEVER TUMBLE DRY
This will crack the sponsor and may shrink the garment.
5. AVOID IRONING
If you must iron (it is preferable that you don’t), then please turn shirts inside out before ironing. The sponsor and number could melt if touched directly by a hot iron.
6. EDUCATE PLAYERS
If individual players wash their own kit, please ensure that everyone knows how to treat their kit for best results.
7. READ THE LABEL
Finally – If you have bought new garments then please READ THE LABEL. We try wherever we can to leave the manufacturers label on the garment for this purpose.
